"Third edition of BJW-2021, space for different views on the colonial imaginary of Latin culture, which will reflect in personal expressions, the internalization of what for generations has made us believe that Latin culture is. Working for Brazil Jewelery Week will allow us to elaborate an image in which we can represent and materialize our cultural diversity, to see reflected different concepts that have been persecuting and influencing us for more than 500 years, understanding or not, the true meaning of hierarchies, acculturation or acculturation.

I’m sure that the results will constitute in a sample that will dare to challenge the colonizing impositions, the eurocentric ideology, and, certainly, the possibility of contributing to a claim of our origins, showing uncensored  possibilities and limitations of our ancestors and our present. I’m sure that the results will give us an image of our current diversity, with a strong burden of rescuing the indigenous and traditional, in the same way that they’ll make us think about how to recover that lost, submitted and denied self-esteem. These creative processes, critical points of view and materializations will make us realize that there are many cultural treasures denied and forgotten in that hole of shame imposed many years ago."

JORGE MANILLA

"We are individuals who operate within a system that understands the possibilities of the present. Societies that are products of an indigenous and colonial past, a past rich in plastic languages of different origins.

In BJW2021, jewelry brings us together as a mean of expression, to honor that we’re hybrid bodies of mestizos and Latinos, molecules of a collective construction in which strength, beyond physical boundaries, it’s in ideas and in a thought that has as a common spot the geographic location.”

"The practice of jewelry represents a real challenge in our contemporary world: while our most remote ancestors, when adorning themselves for the first time, demonstrated their humanity and ability to symbolize through body adornments, the use of jewelry today is no longer a mere identification of social status, but rather a deep historical connection that deals with the beauty of the world and evokes the awareness that we are alive"
