THE STORY THAT INHABITS ME

THE BODY AS A BOOK

THE BODY IN FREEDOM

Which story does a body tell?

How can it express itself?

What is written within it?

How does it make a self-description?

An authorship body, land of itself, owner of its own territory: free, released, tagged and tuned into matter from its own constitutive actions.

“The story that inhabits me" represents the individual identity of each jewellery artist. Each one of these identities consists of a composition of different characteristics and attributes, elements which manifest themselves through an individualization process. Individual, but not unique. That means, the jewellery artist carries an identity that is multiple in itself, due to the constant changes that transform throughout existence. Individual identity, subject to influences of specific bio-social characteristics that are present in each person.

The fourth edition of Brazil Jewellery Week invites us to reveal the story that can live in each one of us, the social and cultural identity of Latin Contemporary Jewellery. How can we interact socially and artistically, belonging within the same community? How to commit individually to this self/collective transformation? “The story that inhabits me” offers the possibility of work and expression trough an identity under permanent construction, and reconstruction, fruit of an ongoing dialogue through experience.

Latin Contemporary Jewellery cultural identity hold a variety of human expressions that have a secular tradition survival, preserving memories and ancient traces. However, during their evolution process, these expressions adopted features that came up in different historical periods and through time they evolved into contemporaneity.

Cultural diversity has been a common sense in art and identity jewellery events with focus on the constant interaction and multiple coexistences between different histories and approaches, without hierarchies, fostering mutual growth.

Brazil Jewellery Week, presents a more analytical approach to the visual perception upon the adorned body. Considering possibilities and its diverse nuances, along the planning of the event, as well as during all its occurrence: we seek to cultivate thinking; present languages created based on proper experiences as well as on collective knowledge; expand the jewellery field; promote cultural interchange; connect local with global; and to tear / break borders and aesthetical pre-established patterns. In short, we aim to discuss and reflect upon social or cultural identity in Latin Contemporary Jewellery.

GOALS

During the event, there will be different approaches focused in contemporary jewellery, intended to contribute and foment a wider understanding of its artistic activity, in respect of many possible different directions concerning creators, thinkers and audience.
